It’s a measure of how well Christchurch is recovering from the devastating earthquake of February 2011 that Air New Zealand will fly a twice weekly 767 service between the south island’s major city and Perth between this December and late next April.
The flights will be code shared with trans Tasman alliance partner Virgin Australia, meaning mileage points and status credits in either airline’s loyalty programs can be earned.
Earlier today Virgin Australia also launched a new Global Wallet product for its Velocity loyalty program members, which have all been emailed with the details.
It will allow dual purpose Velocity Global Wallet cards to be used as a pre paid VISA card and access previously loaded amounts in chosen foreign currencies and earn points on purchases made using the wallet at home or abroad.
Velocity members can opt in to the new product and receive a dual purpose replacement for their current Velocity card by clicking an accept button on the email.
